Our clinic provides the tuberculin skin test (TST), which is accepted by professional schools and potential employers. Other names for this test include the Mantoux test, PPD test (Purified Protein Derivative test), intradermal tuberculin test, TST screening, or tuberculin sensitivity test. These various names all refer to the same test that our clinic provides.
Q: Caller has received the TB vaccine
A: If they have had THE vaccine, they will probably have a false positive result with a TB skin test. It is best if they go and do a chest X-ray directly.
Q: Do you provide a requisition form for a positive result on tb skin test?
A: Our clinic does provide a requisition form for chest X-ray, but they do need to complete the TB skin test first in order to receive a negative result and then do the chest X-ray if the result of the TB skin test is positive. Currently there is an issue where the results of the chest ray are coming to us (-we are working to resolve this). If caller wants their results ask them to email us with first name, last name and birthday.
Q: Which locations is the TB skin testing available at?
A: All locations except North Vancouver and Northwoods Village (Dollarton hwy and Marine dr)
Q: If a caller wants to get their TB test at one clinic and then the reading at another clinic is that possible? Of course it wouldnt be North Vancouver or Northwoods Village (Dollarton hwy and Marine dr).
A: Yes, we can definitely accommodate that. If we are booking the appointment then book the TB test and choose 'Internal admin follow up - [clinic].' Please let team know in comments that caller would like to book the 2nd appointment at another clinic. If the caller is booking online by themselves then ask them to email Admin@travelvax.ca after they booked their initial booking so we can secure the 2nd appointment at a 2nd location before it is fully booked.
Q: What is the process?
A: 1. book appointment. 2. When you arrive for your appointment, one of our experienced healthcare professionals will inject a small amount of substance called Tubersol just underneath the skin on your forearm. The injection only takes a few seconds and is typically painless 3. You will need to return to our clinic 48 to 72 hours after the injection for the reading of your TB skin test (Nurse will schedule). During the reading, one of our healthcare professionals will examine your forearm to look for any signs of a reaction. If there is no reaction, you are negative for TB. If there is a reaction, further testing may be required 4. After the reading, our healthcare professional will discuss your results with you and provide any necessary information for follow-up care and/or testing requirements
Please note TB skin test is different from TB vaccine. TB Vaccine is not available in Canada. If someone has had a TB vaccine it is not advisable to do a TB skin test because most likely they will receive a false positive. They should do a chest xray (-we do not offer chest xrays).
Q: What is a two-step TB test?
A: The two-step TB skin test process basically means it is two tests of TB two to four weeks apart. So, a TB skin test involved getting the injection and doing the reading in 48 to 72 hours. A two-step skin test means it has to be two separate tests to ensure the results are almost accurate ( two negative test results are better than one negative test result). So basically a person does the tuberculin antigen injection and comes back for the reading in 48 to 72 hours ( this is test #1) and then comes back one to four weeks after for the second test ,which is the same process. So with the patient who called, she or he needs to book the second tb test. His/her first one is still valid.
Q: Physician available?
A: We do not have a physician available/onsite. Sometimes a TB form requires a physician to stamp. If this is the case then the client needs to take their results from Travelvax to their physician - tell them to inquire with their physician clinic first if they can sign the document with the supporting TB results.
Q: Can we (re)schedule a TB test reading?
A: No we must send to admin because readings need to be done in 48 to 72 hours
