Medications / Prescription

The travel consultation includes the travel specilist fee for prescribing medications.  If a caller is asking specifically for anti malaria medication, antibiotics for traveler's diarrhea, or altitude sickness medication then book a travel consultation but include in the notes when booking that the appointment is for prescription.

Q: Do you provide antimalarial medications or antibiotics for treatment of traveler’s diarrhea or altitude sickness medication?

A: Yes, we do provide antimalarial medications, antibiotics for the treatment of traveler’s diarrhea, and altitude sickness medication. However, customers must book a virtual consultation. If a customer requires only one or more of these prescription medications, they should inform the nurse during the consultation. They should specify that they are not interested in vaccinations and only wish to discuss the prescription medications. This instruction will enable the nurse to focus solely on assessing and consulting about the requested medications, bypassing the discussion on recommended travel vaccinations. For oral vaccines such as Dukoral or oral typhoid book a vaccine-only appointment if the caller knows they need one or both of these oral vaccines. If they only need loperamide (Imodium), they can actually just go to a pharmacy and grab it as it is an over-the-counter medication and all pharmacies have it.

Q: If we get a caller and they just need a prescription - do we tell them we need to book them for a travel consultation to ensure they don't need to take any other precautions for their trip? Because can't a family doctor prescribe these medications?

A: Most family doctors would not provide the RXs because they lack the knowledge in travel medicine and also it is a private pay service (for leisure), so they cannot charge MSP. But there are some who would prescribe it. Most do not!

Q: What the price is for Dukoral or oral typhoid?

A: If they are getting oral typhoid and Dukoral, there is no injection fee. We will deduct the $20 deposit fee from the cost of the Vivotif ( oral typhoid ) and Dukoral (please see website for cost). If someone has had Dukoral ( whether it was 1 dose or two doses) within the past 5 years, then they would only need Dukoral 1 ( one dose only). If they have never had it or it's been longer than five years, then they need to get Dukoral-2 ( 2 doses one week apart).

We dont see prescription pick-up bookings in calendar. Try clinic twice before trying Sabrina.
